The Octopus Division

The Octopus Division is Matt Muncie, based in Oceanside CA, just north of San Diego. A performing musician and drummer for over 30 years, he has played with numerous bands throughout his career. With experience ranging from large venues to small intimate shows, he understands the complexities of entertaining the audience. The energy and steady rhythms that he brought to the stage were his defining characteristics.

In 2021 Matt decided to embark on a solo career and delved into the exciting world of synth music. It was an easy transition for him as he had grown up listening to Depeche Mode, New Order, The Cure, Pet Shop Boys and the like. Their music inspired him as a musician. Those around him weren’t surprised to learn of his new venture; Matt always had an 80's playlist ready to share with anyone.

The Octopus Division is essentially a one man band. A performance by The Octopus Division leaves you energized by what you see and hear. The memorable songs, coupled with the captivating intensity he brings to the stage evoke the feeling that you’re listening to a live 80's soundtrack. Between the tracks playing, live drumming with an electronic drum pad and melodies played on the keyboard, all at the same time, you can’t help but get caught up in the excitement coming from the stage. Off the stage you will find him talking about gear with the sound techs and chatting with fans and fellow musicians. Matt says he always wants his audience to feel they’ve just experienced a fun and nostalgic musical roller coaster.
